Bube's Brewery in Mt. Joy

Bube's Brewery in Mt. Joy

Address: 102 North Market St., Mt. Joy, PA 17552
Date of Visit: Saturday, March 31, 2018

In April, we were thrilled to host Andrea’s cousin and his family, who were visiting the United States from Bavaria, Germany. As we planned where to take our guests in Central Pennsylvania, one place stood out more than any other: Bube’s Brewery. Located in Mt. Joy, near Lancaster, Bube’s is one of the oldest operating breweries in the country that harkens back to the beer- and pretzel-filled homeland of 19th century Bavaria, Germany. Stemming from the original brewery originating in the late 19th century, Bube’s Brewery (named for founder Alois Bube) includes several different bars, restaurants, and catacombs in which you can experience fine dining, a museum, murder mystery dinners, and of course, ghost tours. With the original brewery and hotel dating back to 1876 and filled with memories of the distant old country, ghosts and the paranormal are an essential ingredient in what makes Bube’s a truly entertaining and fun experience.

On our inaugural hunt in search for good beer and tasty food, our sixth sense lead us to Cassell’s Grille in Mount Holly Springs. At just over one square mile, Mount Holly is located at the base of the South Mountain range, about a 10-minute drive east of Carlisle and about 25 minutes north of Gettysburg. Elevated above the street corner at the town’s intersection, the first thing you notice about Cassell’s Grille is the spacious patio. Unfortunately, at 30 degrees, we stuck to exploring the inside of this local favorite.

Hello!

Haunted and Hungry is written and updated by Andrea and Sean, two food, beer, and travel enthusiasts living and working near historic Gettysburg, one of the most famous sites of the American Civil War.

Andrea and Sean met at York College in 2004 and have been side by side ever since. They married in 2009 and lived in York, PA before moving to Adams County, PA in August 2017. Moving from urban York to rural Adams County has been a change of pace, but they are determined to seek out the best places for food, drink, and entertainment in and around Gettysburg. Haunted and Hungry will share their expertise and adventures with tourists and locals alike.
